HOW WILL I KNOW IF YOU ARE THE RIGHT THERAPIST FOR ME?
In a successful or working therapy relationship, clients feel safe discussing topics or issues, even vulnerable ones. A good fit with a therapist is someone with whom you can imagine sharing a range of emotions–laughter, tears, anger–while also feeling that your interactions are guided by a sense of professionalism and intellect.
WHAT HAPPENS IN THERAPY?
Therapy is not always an easy process. You may talk about difficult topics or be asked to make behavioral changes that are challenging. The relationship between client and therapist should always feel respectful and caring. The hope is that clients should leave each session feeling that they have a new understanding of themselves or a situation. The topic may be difficult, however, the discussion will be respectful and compassionate.
IS THERAPY FOREVER?
The intensity and length of therapy sessions are client-driven. Ideally, therapy is a tool to navigate difficult times. Clients are encouraged to schedule based on how helpful they find sessions. It is not uncommon for clients to begin weekly therapy before gradually transitioning to monthly sessions and then to as-needed sessions.
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION?
Your first session will be an intake assessment. This therapy session is the longest and most thorough at 50-60 minutes in length. You can request a more thorough intake session for 1-1.5 hours (increased service fee applies). Subsequent sessions are 45-50 minutes in length.
